Woodlands Garden Update

Quick Notes from Woodlands on a Cold Sunny Day - www.woodlandsgarden.org

Mid-Week Gardening is scheduled for next Wednesday, February 24. We'll delay our start until 10am to let it warm up a little. The long-term forecast looks promising, with morning temperatures above freezing every day next week. The first meeting of the year for the Garden Committee will follow at 12:30 in the heated comfort of the office. All are invited, even if you haven't been here for the work session. Come talk about gardening and help make plans for Woodlands without hurting your back! And if you really need to get out here and get dirty this week, come over this Friday between 1 and 3pm for an impromptu afternoon gardening session -best weather of the week, ground still moist for weeding, shrubs full of buds and daffodils about to open any minute.

Wanted: Camellia lovers. The Camellia Committee would like your help labeling the shrubs. Jim Pruckler of the Georgia Camellia Society has generously made and donated ceramic labels with the names of all the varieties - Sweetheart, Marjorie Magnificent, Queen Bessie and Easter Morn are just a few of the fantastic camellias in the collection here at Woodlands. Contact Ruby if you can help the Camellia Queens with this one-time task.

Also wanted: Native azalea lovers. Woodlands has many different varieties of native azaleas, blooming in succession all spring, but we don't quite know which is which. We need someone who knows or would like to learn about these beautiful shrubs to come over repeatedly during the spring months to catch them in bloom and identify, photograph, and label them. Again, contact Ruby to get involved.

Sunday in the Garden - February 28, 2-4pm. With the warmer (normal Atlanta winter) weather that is expected next week, our late winter bloomers just might burst into glory - Japanese magnolias, quince, daffodil, hellebore. The witch hazel and flowering apricot have already been blooming for several weeks. It's also a great time to see the structure of the bare trees.

See you in the Garden!

Ruby
